The report on "Obstetricians' Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices in Oral Health and Pregnancy" is very interesting. Suri et al. concluded that "although obstetricians generally were knowledgeable about appropriate dental care practices during pregnancy as well as the relationship between oral health and pregnancy outcomes, this knowledge often did not translate into appropriate practice behavior". In fact, knowledge of oral health is usually a significant issue among physicians in general. In many countries, the present medical curricula is usually deficient in the content of oral health and dentistry. Therefore, there is no doubt that there are many reports pointing to the unfavorable practice of physicians toward oral health care. On the other hand, a positive example is a previous report from Brazil on obstetricians' knowledge, attitudes and practices toward periodontal diseases in pregnancy. To successfully manage public oral health problems, the integration of oral health knowledge into the medical curriculum seems to be an effective health education strategy.
